Gear Coupling

A gear coupling is a mechanical device used to connect two rotating shafts together while transmitting torque and compensating for misalignment between them. It consists of two hubs with external teeth or gears that mesh with each other, and a flexible element or sleeve that connects the hubs. The flexible element can be made of different materials such as steel, bronze, orpolyurethane, and it allows for angular, parallel, and axial misalignment between the two shafts. The gear teeth on the hubs are usually designed to have a crowned profile, which helps to reduce wear and noise. Gear couplings are commonly used in industrial machinery, such as pumps, compressors, and turbines, where reliable transmission of power and compensation for shaft misalignment are essential. They are also used in high-speed and high-torque applications, where other types of couplings may not be suitable.
